We leave for Ethiopia in four days, and in six days we'll finally get to meet "L." We aren't allowed to bring him much on this first trip, because everything in the orphanage is communal, but we can bring him some pictures.
Borrowing the idea from other adoptive parents who have gone before us, we made him a photo collage poster to hang above his bed.
We printed out his referral photo, put it in a frame, and brought "L" to some of the places where he'll be regularly when he comes home. It's hard to see in this photo of the collage, but we have "L" at school, at church, in his room at home; we included pictures of us, our family, our house; and pictures of the dogs.
I'd originally included this photo of us from our honeymoon:
But Brad was worried "L" would get home and be like "so, where's your helicopter??" Good point, Brad.
Our hope is by looking at these photos each day between our court and Embassy trips he'll develop some familiarity with our life here that will help with his transition.
Here's a larger version of Brad and "L" at the park playground:
And "L" and me sitting on a bench along the path that we take from our house to the park:
Four days . . . six days.
